Donning an official suggested retail price of PHP 49,990, Samsung Galaxy S20 is the most affordable of the three Galaxy S20 Series models that the Korean Giant has just announced here at its Local Unpacked Event held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in BGC.
However, just because it's the least pricey of the bunch doesn't mean that it's a total push over when it comes to design, display, power, and imaging prowess.
Sure, it doesn't support 5GB, has fewer cameras, has less RAM, and comes with smaller battery compared to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra -- but if you ask me, Samsung Galaxy S20 with its slightly more accessible price tag is just as compelling and attractive.
Design-wise, Samsung Galaxy S20 has the exact same build as its more expensive siblings. The handsets comes replete with scratch-resistant front and back glass panels and a metal mid-frame. It's also IP68 Water and Dust Resistant, which is particularly useful for users who bring their phones with them when doing extreme sporting activities.
Although Samsung Galaxy S20's 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2.0 screen is smaller than that of the S20+ and S20 Ultra, it nonetheless has the same QuadHD+ resolution, which means that even more pixel dense or more crisp than the displays of those two other models.
I also know many consumers who prefer having a smartphone with a smaller screen because of the overall smaller footprint, which makes the device easier to hold or keep in the pocket. If you feel the same way, then I totally understand if you think the Galaxy S20 is the most attractive model in this line.
Now, as for the cameras, Samsung Galaxy S20 has three shooters at the back.
1. 12 MegaPixel Primare Camera with f/1.8 Aperture, Dual Pixel Phase Detection AutoFocus, and Optical Image Stabilization
This is the best of the trio in terms of low light performance and dynamic range in everyday point and shoot photography.
2. 64 MegaPixel Secondary Camera with f/2.0 Aperture, Telephoto Lens, PDAF, and OIS
This shooter effectively enables 3X Optical or Lossless Zoom, which is handy when you don't want or can't move slower to your subject to take a tighter shot.
3. 12 MegaPixel Tertiary Ultra-Wide Camera with f/2.2 Aperture and AF
This camera is great for capturing scale, making it perfect for landscape and architectural photography.
Made for content creators and Youtubers who want to future-proof their work or those who see the value shooting in ultra-high resolution for lossless video cropping in post-production, Samsung Galaxy S20 can shoot - get this - up to 8K videos at 30 frames per second!
But if you're now quite ready for that, you can always record clips using the rear shooters at 4K 30 and 30fps or FullHD at 30, 60, and 240 fps.
In front, housed in a punch hole above the screen, there's 10 MegaPixel snapper that's useful for taking selfies. This camera can also record 4K Videos at up to 60 frames per second and what's even better is that it supports Auto-HDR for videos which is great for recording talking head videos or narration in vlogs even when the background is very bright. If you want to save space, though, you can always just record FullHD videos at up to 30 or 60 fps.
The front and back video recorders of Samsung Galaxy S20 support Live Focus Video Mode that automatically blurs out the background of the subject through software. This artificially mimics the bokeh effect you'll get when shooting clips using a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a wide-aperture prime lens. I guess this feature will be rather useful for vloggers across niches when recording talking head shots.
Under the hood, Samsung Galaxy S20 runs its One UI 2.0 customized Android 10 operating system with the latest Exynos 990 processor that enables strong AI capabilities of this handset and makes it a great gaming device with its Adreno 650 GPU.
The chipset is complemented by 8GB of RAM for smooth multitasking and 128GB of internal storage that can easily be augmented using the hybrid secondary nanoSIM slot that can also take in a microSD card.
Samsung Galaxy S20 is powered by a large 4,000 mAh Li-Po battery that supports 25W fast charging. This pack should be large enough to provide whole day of uptime with regular use but power users who need more juice should find the faster charging capability a real treat.
Beautiful, powerful, and reliable when it comes to content creation on the go, Samsung Galaxy S20 will be available in two colors upon launch, namely, Cosmic Gray, Cloud Pink. No official word yet on its official release date so please stay tuned for updates.
